Sunday 21st of January saw the first swimming competition of 2024, the Golden Coach Pentaqua being held at the Clickimin pool. The Pentaqua is a new form of competition where every swimmer competes in 5 races, one butterfly, one backstroke, one breaststroke, one freestyle and one Individual Medley. The distances swum range from 25-meter races for the youngest swimmers up to 200-meter races for the more senior swimmers. Medals are awarded to the swimmers who perform best in their age group across all 5 events. There were 116 entrants from five of Shetland’s clubs, Delting Dolphins (DD), Lerwick ASC(LK), Shetland ACSC (SH), South Mainland (SM) and Westside Sharks (WSS), these swimmers recorded over 200 new personal best times with lots of younger swimmers tackling butterfly and individual medley races for the first time.

Shetland ACSC who organised the meet would like to thank Derek Allen who travelled up from Orkney to referee the meet along with our Babs Ross, all the officials and parent helpers and the Clickimin pool staff for ensuring everything ran smoothly. They would also like to thank The Golden Coach for their continued sponsorship of this competition.
